For my collage I plan to depict a space ship taking off from a planet for a trip to and back from a planet on the other side of the screen. Right now my major hurdle is removing the checkered background from the assets I am finding. One way I plan to add some extra life to my animation is to give the space ship an animated, "hand-drawn" appearance. This can be achieved using the roughen edges and turbulent displacement on the outline, while having a jittering masked background. An example of this technique can be seen in the attached video. The artist goes in depth in his video "How I animate without taking a year (or ten) | Jittery Paper Animation." I could also try a creating an animated collage of assets I create myself in illustrator with the goal of having it look like animated sketches from a notebook.
